Project Description:

Fairy Tale Fashion, at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York held a unique and imaginative exhibition from 15th January – 16th April, 2016 that examined fairy tales though the lens of High Fashion.

Colleen Hill, curated the exhibition which included Stephen Jones’ first collaboration with Thom Browne the ‘Bear Cage’ from Autumn Winter 2013 menswear collection.

Another addition to the exhibition was from Stephen’s Spring Summer 2007 collection named Artifice; a pair of miniature ballerina slippers mounted on a silk stage with red velvet curtain-bow called ‘Life or Art.’ The piece was inspired by the 1948 Emeric Pressburger directed film ‘The Red Shoes,’ where an aspiring ballerina is torn between her dedication to dance and her desire to love. The hat was exhibited next to a video of the scene called ‘A Dangerous Dance,’ where Moira Shearer stars as Vicky Page, performs in a balletic adaption of Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale.
