Dior Hats: From Christian Dior to Stephen Jones

"I am delighted to announce the release of:
‘Dior Hats: From Christian Dior to Stephen Jones’ / ‘Chapeaux Dior! De Christian Dior à Stephen Jones’ in the UK and Europe, published by Rizzoli in English and French.

It has been an honour to tell the story of Christian Dior hats, and I would like to thank Maria Grazia Chiuri, Raf Simons and John Galliano for inviting me be a part of that narrative.

I could not have fashioned this book without the inspiration of Monsieur Dior, who believed so strongly that hats were a part of the complete silhouette. As well as Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan & Gianfranco Ferre; the designers who kept this ethos alive when they were custodians of the house.

I would like to thank Sølve Sundsbø for creating exquisite photographs for this book, including the magnificent cover with Ruth Bell, with her make up by Peter Philips, wearing a reinterpretation of the 1947  ‘Bar’ hat, paired with an Haute Couture ensemble by Maria Grazia Chiuri.

I would like to thank all the contributors to this book, including Florence Müller, Natasha Fraser-Cavassoni, Vincent Leret, Dean Rhys Morgan and Alexander Fury.   ‘Dior Hats: From Christian Dior to Stephen Jones’ is dedicated to Monsieur Christian Dior, Mizza Bricard and Steven Robinson.

I would finally like to thank the the multi-talented milliners who create that evocation of fashion, France, and Dior: un joli chapeau!" - Stephen Jones

From Monsieur Dior’s fabulous hats to those that matched haute couture silhouettes by Yves Saint Laurent, floral toques by Marc Bohan, majestic, wide-brimmed hats by Gianfranco Ferré, extravagant confections by John Galliano, poetic creations by Raf Simons and feather headdresses by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the book Dior Hats revisits sumptuous moments. A series of exclusive, never-before-published photographs by Sølve Sundsbø, as well as emblematic images by fashion’s greatest photographers showcase this key essential. A celebration of distinction at its quintessence.

Whether woven from straw, punctuated with sprigs of lily of the valley, shaped from taffeta or leather, ranging from whimsical bibis to delicate bob hats trimmed with veils – a nod to the marvels worn by Mitzah Bricard, the founding couturier’s divine real-life caryatid and collaborator – Dior hats are a signature unto themselves, an embodiment of sophistication and femininity. Compiled under the virtuoso eye of Stephen Jones – milliner to the House of Dior since 1996 – this unique tome unearths archival treasures, taking the reader on a fantasy odyssey of discovery through a mix of words and images dedicated to these fascinating objects of desire.
